depth Therapy in the inner sunset
coping with exhaustion, loneliness, & the Pressure to Adapt
Welcome
When something Feels a bit Off
Living in the Inner Sunset, you might be surrounded by beauty—fog drifting through cypress trees, the scent of eucalyptus in the air—but inside, something feels off. You may be going through the motions, holding it together outwardly, while privately feeling numb, untethered, or quietly worn down. That sense of something missing can be hard to name, but it feels real nonetheless.
You might find yourself wondering: Why does everything feel harder than it should? Where did my energy go? Or When did I lose touch with myself?
The Emotional Cost of Shape-Shifting
Emotional exhaustion doesn’t always show up dramatically. Sometimes it’s the slow drain of constantly adapting to meet the needs or expectations of others—keeping things running, minimizing your own reactions, or carrying the emotional load in a relationship. You might find yourself reassuring others when you’re the one who’s struggling, or saying yes when you mean no. Over time, it becomes hard to tell what’s genuinely yours and what’s taken shape to fit in with others.
Shape-shifting may have started as a way to stay safe or feel included. But now, it may leave you unsure of what you want, what you feel, or where your own edges are. That disconnection doesn’t always look like crisis—it might feel more like irritation, mental fog, or the dull sense that you’re no longer quite living your own life.
Slowing Down Enough to Hear Yourself
The strategies you’ve used to cope—numbing out, staying busy, adjusting yourself to fit—likely made sense at one point. They helped you get through. But they can also leave you feeling disconnected from your own needs, limits, or sense of aliveness.
Depth therapy offers space to slow down and listen inward—to get curious about what’s been hidden, muted, or long ignored. This is not about fixing you—because you’re not broken. It’s about making contact with parts of yourself that were set aside in order to keep going.
Support That Meets You Where You Are
Over time, therapy can help you feel more grounded in your own truth, more at ease in your relationships, and more able to live your life with clarity and self-trust.
I offer depth-oriented psychotherapy in person at my San Francisco office in Cow Hollow—a short drive or Muni ride from the Inner Sunset—as well as online throughout California.
